Managing and Organizing Metrics
This article walks through Organizing, Viewing & Troubleshooting Metrics
This article covers how to organize your Metrics view, surface the right data in meetings and dashboards, use tags and privacy settings, and resolve common issues.
Reordering Metrics
Reordering your Metrics customizes how they appear across the One Page Plan and Daily Dashboard. Changes take effect immediately for all users.
Reordering Company Metrics
- Go to the Metrics page and use the filter to select Company Only.
- Click and drag the = icon next to each Metric to set the order.
Reordering Individual Metrics
- On the Metrics page, use the dropdown to select yourself.
- The = icon will appear to the left of your Metrics.
- Drag and drop into your preferred order.
📝 Note: Your individual order carries over to your Daily Dashboard and the individual components of the One Page Plan.
Viewing Metric Frequencies in Meetings and on the Dashboard
On both the Daily Dashboard and in Meetings, you can expand a Metric to see all frequency intervals (e.g., Daily, Weekly, Monthly) and their Actual, Target, and Approved values.
- Hover over the right side of the Metric row — an hourglass icon appears.
- Click the hourglass to expand and view all associated frequency values.
- Click Show Less to collapse back to the default view.
📝 Note: Approved = the original target set at the start of the quarter. Target = the re-forecasted figure. This is especially useful in meetings where you want full context without switching pages.
The Previous Interval Setting
Previous Interval displays and accepts Metric data based on the most recently completed time period, rather than the current one. Use it when your data reflects results that have just happened rather than real-time performance.
| Use Previous Interval when... | Do not use Previous Interval when... |
|---|---|
| Reporting after the fact on completed periods | Tracking live, real-time performance |
| Weekly Metric reviewed on Monday (last week's data) | Metrics like cash on hand updated daily |
| Daily Metric showing yesterday's website visitors | Deals closed today |
How Frequency Affects Previous Interval
- Daily frequency → shows yesterday's data
- Weekly frequency → shows last week's data
- Monthly frequency → shows last month's data
📝 Note: Previous Interval does not currently work for Metrics set to a Quarterly frequency, as Metronome prioritizes visibility on current-quarter data.
How to Enable
- Click the Metric to open its Properties panel on the right.
- Locate the Show Previous Interval checkbox.
- Check the box to enable. It can be toggled on or off at any time without affecting the underlying Actuals.
💡 Tip: In weekly meetings held early in the week, turn on Show Previous Interval for relevant Metrics so the team reviews complete, finalized data rather than a partially-updated current week.
Tags and Advanced Search
Tags are a flexible way to organize and filter Metrics and Quarterly Priorities. Once tagged, you can use Advanced Search or meeting filters to surface only what's relevant.
Adding a Tag to a Metric
- Click the Metric (it highlights green).
- In the Properties panel, scroll to the Tags section.
- Enter one or more tags and press Enter to confirm.
Adding a Tag to a Quarterly Priority
- Click the Priority (it highlights green).
- On the right-hand side, scroll to the Tags section at the bottom.
- Enter one or more tags.
Using Tags in Advanced Search
Use Advanced Search in both Metrics and Quarterly Priorities to filter by:
- Tags
- Status (Complete, In Progress)
- Status colour
- Due dates (e.g., due in the next X days)
Privacy Settings
By default, all Metrics and Quarterly Priorities are visible to your whole team. You can restrict access to specific individuals or teams when needed.
Setting Privacy on a Metric or Quarterly Priority
- Click the item (it highlights green).
- In the Properties panel, select Privacy.
- Choose the individuals or teams who should have access.
- Click anywhere outside the dropdown to save.
⚠️ Important — two things to keep in mind:
- Meetings and Privacy: a Metric or Priority only appears in a meeting if the meeting's attendee list matches the item's privacy list.
- Add yourself: if you are building the privacy list, include yourself. If you don't, you'll lose access and need someone else on the list to re-add you.
Auto-Status
Auto-Status lets Metronome automatically assign a status colour (Super Green, Green, Yellow, or Red) based on performance against targets and pacing — no manual updates needed. It applies to both Metrics and Quarterly Priorities.
- Click the Metric (it highlights green).
- In the Properties panel on the right, locate the Auto Status toggle.
- Click to enable. The status colour will now update automatically.
Review Flags
A Review Flag is a visual reminder that a Metric has not been updated recently and needs attention.
- A flag appears when a Metric (or its Child Metric) has not been updated within 7 days past the set frequency.
- The flag is visible to the Metric owner and any Admins or Assistants.
Clearing a Review Flag
There are two ways to remove a flag:
- Update the Metric's Actual value if there are progress changes.
- Click Mark as Reviewed: select the Metric (highlights green) → locate "Last Updated" in the top-right details window → click Mark as Reviewed. If done on a Child Metric, the flag is automatically removed from the Parent too.
Why Is My Metric's Status Colour Blank?
A blank status colour usually means required information is missing. Check the following:
- Targets or actuals not entered: if either is missing, the system cannot calculate progress.
- Start of a new quarter: status colours won't display until targets and actuals are entered.
- Frequency not updated: Daily, Weekly, or Monthly Metrics must be updated regularly. A missed update removes the colour.
- Viewing a future meeting: actuals haven't been entered for upcoming dates yet, so colours appear blank.
Tracking Periods: Starting, Stopping, and Restarting
Moving a Metric's Start Period
- Click the Metric (it highlights green).
- In Properties, navigate to Tracking (from/until).
- Click the dropdown next to From and choose the new period.
🚫 Warning: Moving a Metric that has historical data to a future start period will permanently remove that history. Only do this if the previous data is irrelevant or does not exist.
Stopping Tracking (While Preserving History)
If you want to retain data but stop a Metric appearing in current views:
- Click the Metric (it highlights green).
- In Properties, find Tracking (from/until).
- Click the Until dropdown (placeholder: "Ongoing") and select the last quarter you want the Metric tracked in.
📝 Note: The selected quarter still includes the Metric through its last day. To view historical data, use the date filter to navigate back to a period when the Metric was active.
Restarting a Metric You Previously Stopped
Option 1 — Resume from its last tracked period: go to the last active period, open Tracking (from/until), and remove or update the Until date so the Metric becomes active again.
Option 2 — Start fresh: if several quarters have passed and you don't need the old data going forward, click More > Copy Metric and set a new From date on the copied version.
💡 Tip: Using tracking controls instead of deleting preserves your data history and keeps dashboards clean.
