How do I assign a status color to a Function on the Key Function Flow Map?

In this article, we'll go over how to add status colors to functions on the Key Function Flow Map, and why this is a critical practice!

Why Key Function Flow Map Functions have status colors

Manually adding and continually updating the status color on your function in the Key Function Flow Map (KFFM) is crucial because it drives transparency, accountability, and alignment across your team.

In the Metronomics system, consistent visibility into performance is key to ensuring that everyone is aware of progress, roadblocks, and priorities. By keeping status colors current, you help your team quickly identify what’s on track, what needs attention, and where support is required.

This simple yet powerful habit fosters a culture of accountability and proactive problem-solving, which is essential for maintaining the business rhythm that leads to predictable growth.

How to Choose the Right Colors

When selecting a color, it's helpful to think about the people, processes, and things within a Function. You can keep the following guidelines in mind:

  • Green – Represents a function that is running smoothly with no major concerns.

  • Yellow – Indicates that the function is operational but has challenges or areas that need improvement.
  • Red – Signals a critical issue within the function that needs to be addressed in the short to immediate term.

By using these color indicators, your KFFM will clearly reflect the current status of your functions, helping your team stay aligned and focused on achieving business goals.

How to add status colors

To assign a status color for a function on the Key Function Flow Map (KFFM), the function owner must update it directly from the KFFM.

Note: The function status color is manually assigned and does not automatically reflect a roll-up average of Scorecard metrics.
