How do I copy an existing metric?

Copying a metric allows you to quickly duplicate an existing metric and make any necessary adjustments.

Why Copy a Metric?

Copying a metric can save time when you need to create multiple metrics that share similar structure, such as frequency, type, or setup. This is especially helpful when:

  • You want to create similar metrics for multiple team members or functions

  • You’re setting up a new quarter and need to duplicate metrics from a previous one

  • You want to test a different tracking method without changing the original metric

  • You’re building cascading or roll-up metrics and need similar structures

Rather than starting from scratch, you can create a copy and simply adjust what's different.

How to Copy a Metric

Follow these simple steps:

1. Select the Metric
Click on the metric you wish to copy. It will highlight in green once selected.

2. Access the Copy Option
Click the More button in the top-right corner of the screen.
From the dropdown menu, choose Copy Metric.

3. Customize the Copied Metric
The new metric will appear with the same structure as the original.
You can now update the name, targets, actuals, ownership, or any other properties to fit the new use case.

What’s Copied?

The following details will carry over into the copied metric:

  • Title (with “Copy” appended to it)

  • Frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)

  • Type (Count, Measurement, Flat)

  • Any linked cascading structure (if applicable) will not be copied—you’ll need to re-link as needed

  • Properties and formatting

Final Tip

After copying, be sure to:

  • Double-check the target and actuals to avoid carrying over old data

  • Re-assign the owner if another Scorecard should be accountable to that metric

  • Decide whether it should be marked as a Company Metric (if relevant)
